Brooklyn, NY- the other Borough
This person's post inprired me today. I began with a comment- but realized it was getting too long, and I didn't want to hog her blog like some people hog the sheets in bed.
I always thought that the whole fight about the west side stadium was a diversion, so that the Net's stadium in Brooklyn could sail through without a hitch. But thankfully there are locals that have organized. But then again there are locals (such as those that bought _CONDOs_ in 2003) that took the money offered by Ratner- and ran with it.
Let’s not even begin with the MTA that is always crying money- that always raises our fares- that wants to take benefits away from the union- THAT TURNED DOWN THE HIGHEST OFFER FOR THE PROPERTY IN BROOKLYN TO SELL TO RATNER.
Why is it the people of NYC only care when it's Manhattan?? wtf. This battle has been going on for more than a year and it's never on the network news. At least the New York Times has begun to (poorly) cover the story- but it still seems like too little too late. Perhaps it is because the NYTimes is actually in a business partnership with Forest City Ratner? Because they are. While the big battle is being fought locals are losing everywhere else. There’s something like 6 other high-rise/sky scraping office buildings going up independent of the Ratner plan- while no one is paying attention.
I’m paying attention. Marty Markowitz? You’ll never get my vote for mayor. Spitzer? You shouldn’t even get the Democratic Party endorsement. Pataki, Bloomberg- how much are those bastards making through real-estate in NYC?
All this is happening in an area of Brooklyn that is already over-congested. So you think- so what? It’s not my area- but the thing is- if you are traveling between many parts of Brooklyn (queens and long island) than you _have_ to travel through this area- hello??
Then there’s “suspicious” warehouse fires in queens, box stores in Redhook, and condos _inside_ parks. And in my neighborhood- ugly tan colored brick condos on each block- where once beautiful single family and Victorian homes once stood…
I can’t stand NYC- it never learns form the past.
